2013 Season
As the 2013 season draws to a close, we can see how exceptionally well the word has gone out about our monument-through frequent laudatory press releases, website visits and via word-of-mouth.
The Winsted Journal has been a great friend to us, giving us frequent coverage both before and after our events. We owe them a great deal of thanks.
Our website, revised in March 2013, has seen phenomenal growth- averaging more than 2000 new visitors each month. Schools and other educational facilities, particularly online sites, have notified us to report how valuable a resource our "Links" page is in furthering research.
Word-of-mouth has, of course, increased website viewership AND has increased the number of people who attend our traditional summer open-house hours. Indeed, our special events like the Living History event held in September and our Cemetery Walk in October have seen amazing growth. Total visitors to those two events combined exceeded 350!
We are also seeing a growing interest in hosting school classes at the monument as well as other organizations like the Elks Lodge who held their annual Veteran's Day meeting at the monument on November 9th prior to returning to the Elks club for their dinner. We continue to encourage schools, other groups and individuals to utilize our building, grounds and scholars for their special events. Please see the contact page for more information.
A group that has been particularly helpful to us is the Connecticut Civil War Round Table. They get the word out to their membership about our upcoming events and participate in them as well. We are so very grateful!
As we wind our way down to the close of the year, only our tree lighting is left to us before we re-open the monument in the spring.
This is a ceremony, that with your help, we hope to enlarge upon in upcoming years.
Have a safe and happy holiday season and...see you in the spring!
