Sgt. Major Lyman Coe Loomis (Mike Mueller) moved from Winsted with his mother, sister and aunt's family to Iowa where he enlisted in the Iowa Cavalry during the war. He became a POW and after going to a parole camp was hospitalized with dysentery. He died and was buried at the Alexandria Cemetery. His family has a memorial stone in the Winsted "Old Burying Ground".
